IST is a non profit organization whose purpose is to provide:
- Educational opportunities for Madison-area string students, namely those that could not be offered by an individual studio teacher,
- Opportunities for professional development for teachers,
- A forum for professional interaction,
- Support for the highest ethical standards in teaching and professional conduct, and
- Activities related to the advancement of the profession of stringed instrument teaching and playing.
