SUMMER MUSIC CAMPS

String Adventures 2009 (June 21-26)

It is not too late to have your students enroll in the UW-Oshkosh summer strings session, "String Adventure 2009." The dates are June 21 - 26. This means arrive on Sunday afternoon, stay 5 nights in the dorm there, and have the parents pick up at the concert early on Friday afternoon. This year the focus is on smaller chamber groups, at several levels. Also private lesson opportunities for violin, viola, and cello.

The supervision is outstanding. Violin majors, from UW-Oshkosh, are with the young students every minute that they are not in class. A very safe environment.

The advantage of this particular event is that younger students are eligible, along with older ones. I would recommend this for students up to 9th grade. This means that your great student who plays well, reads, and loves to play does not have to wait for 6th grade for this kind of experience. An independent 4th grader is welcome and would do well. Violin teacher Bonnie Greene will be working with the beginners.

If you have any interest, please contact Bonnie Greene (250-6707). Late registration is not a problem. The deadline has been pushed to June 8.

UW-Whitewater (June 21-26)

UW-Whitewater will be hosting its 20th-annual String Camp from June 21-26, on the UW-W campus. Students from 7-12 grade are eligible. They form three orchestras (7-8 grade, 9-10, and 11-12) that rehearse intensively throughout the week, culminating in a final concert on the 26th. Other offerings include a variety of classes (Improv, Fiddling, Theory, Conducting), masterclasses, Faculty Recitals and honors student recitals, optional private lessons, plus recreation activities. The camp is very reasonably priced ($315 for the week). To register or for more information, go to
